Medieval Arcades of Carrer del Rec
Medieval arcades — merchant architecture
The Estació de França, located on Avinguda del Marquès de l’Argentera, was built between 1926 and 1929 as part of the major urban works for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. It is one of the city’s most iconic train stations. Its architecture, in an Italianate Noucentista style, stands out for its impressive hall with three coffered vaults, monumental metal structure, and elegant interior details such as marble staircases and glass skylights. The metal train sheds were designed by Andreu Montaner, while the hall and façades were created by Raimon Duran Reynals and Pelayo Martínez. Restored in the 1990s under the direction of José Ramón Pastor González, the station also housed a Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) facility between 1993 and 2008. Today, it remains a symbol of Barcelona’s railway elegance.
