Plaça del Rei

The Plaça del Rei is one of Barcelona’s most emblematic Gothic ensembles, a true witness to the city’s medieval past. At its center stands the Palau Reial Major, former residence of the Counts of Catalonia and the Kings of Aragon (13th–15th centuries), whose most remarkable hall is the majestic Saló del Tinell. Around the square, several gems complete the ensemble: the Royal Chapel of Santa Àgata (14th century) with the altarpiece by Jaume Huguet, the Palau del Lloctinent (16th century) with its Renaissance courtyard, now home to the Archive of the Crown of Aragon, and the Casa Padellàs, which houses the Barcelona History Museum and gives access to the remains of Roman Barcelona.
