Sculpture Montserrat

Created in 1928 by Eusebi Arnau Mascort, this bronze sculpture still reflects the influence of modernism, even though the movement was already past its peak at the time. The work, inspired by Michelangelo, depicts an old man — probably the monk Joan Garí — holding in his hand an image of the Virgin of Montserrat, patron saint of Catalonia. It belongs to the final creative period of Arnau, a leading master of Catalan modernism.
