Statue of Félix de Azara

The sculpture of Félix de Azara (1746-1821), inaugurated in 1886 in front of the Geology Museum in Ciutadella Park, is a work by Eduard B. Alentorn. Made of marble and stone, it depicts the Spanish military officer, cartographer, and naturalist seated, holding a map in reference to his cartographic work. At his sides, an animal and a bird allude to his naturalist research carried out in Paraguay and the Río de la Plata region.
