Built in 1779 for the Savassona family and later inherited by the Parellada, this urban palace retains its original neoclassical façade on Carrer Canuda. In 1796 the Baron of Savassona, Josep Francesc Ferrer de Llupià, oversaw early modifications himself. A major reworking between 1904 and 1906, carried out by architects Josep Font Gumà and Josep M. Jujol, prepared the building for the Ateneu Barcelonès, which moved here in 1907. Later reforms followed in 1968 (Joan Bassegoda Nonell) and 2006-2008 (Manuel Brullet and Mateu Barba). Inside, 18th-century murals attributed to Francesc Pla, known as el Vigatà, survive alongside Modernista ceilings from the early 20th-century works. The inner courtyard with its staircase is among the best-preserved parts of the original building.
