Bust of Marià Aguiló

The bust of Marià Aguiló i Fuster (1825-1897), a Majorcan philologist and bibliographer, was inaugurated on May 9, 1909, in the Ciutadella Park, during the Jocs Florals. Created in marble by Eusebi Arnau, it was part of a series of monuments dedicated to great Catalan literary figures. The inauguration ceremony, enlivened by the Orfeó Català, highlighted an inscription by Aguiló: “A people who regains its language regains itself.”
