Casal de la Previsió

Erected between 1920 and 1922 by Enric Sagnier as an annex to the neighbouring Caixa de Pensions headquarters, this building shares the same white stone finish and Gothic sensibility as its companion across the street, though in a more contained and functional version. The silhouette — defined by two square crenellated towers and rounded corners with pinnacles — gives it a fortress-like character. The sculptural decoration is attributed to Eusebi Arnau: the entrance relief shows a coat of arms held by two pages bearing the emblems of Catalonia's four provinces and the Balearic Islands, surmounted by a crown. A relief of the Virgin occupies the cylindrical section facing Carrer Ramon Mas.
