Festa de l'arbre

The Festa de l’Arbre was first celebrated on April 30, 1899, in the Parc de la Ciutadella, at the initiative of forestry engineer Rafael Puig i Valls (1845-1920). Aimed at raising awareness among children and teachers about the importance of trees in the face of deforestation, the event gathered around 1,500 participants and led to the planting of 400 pine trees. The celebration, supported by the Barcelona City Council, concluded with the inauguration of a commemorative rock that can still be seen today.
