House at Carrer Triangle - Rec, 16

Carrer del Triangle takes its name from the triangular city block that emerged from the demolition of many houses during the construction of the Ciutadella in the 18th century. Authorised for construction around the mid-18th century, this singular urban space is home to a building whose very acute corner plot gives its facade, seen from the tip of the triangle, a spectacular and striking silhouette. The current building, though rebuilt in the 19th century, retains in the ground-floor openings clearly legible traces of its original 18th-century construction. A fascinating example of how Barcelona's military and urban planning upheavals shaped the unusual streetscape of El Born.
