The Monument in Memory of Persecuted Gay, Lesbian and Transsexual People, inaugurated in 2011 in Ciutadella Park, is the first memorial of its kind in Spain. It takes the form of an inverted triangle made of Montjuïc stone, bordered by a pink metallic strip, referencing the pink triangle used by the Nazis to identify deported homosexuals, later adopted as a symbol of struggle and remembrance by the LGBT movement. It bears the inscription: “In memory of gays, lesbians and transsexual people who suffered persecution and repression throughout history.” Located near the Glorieta de la Transsexual Sonia, where Sonia Rescalvo was murdered in 1991, the monument stands as a powerful gesture of recognition, visibility, and historical remembrance for all victims of repression linked to their identity or sexual orientation.
