Catalan Modernist Lamp Post
Built between 1887 and 1898 through the collaboration of two great Barcelona architects — Domènech Estapà and Enric Sagnier — the Palau de Justícia impresses with its monumental character and silhouette crowned by eight domes with Central European echoes. Its sculpted decoration, of remarkable profusion, blends classical repertoire with Modernista touches. A portico preceded by a grand staircase leads into a vestibule lit by a polychrome stained-glass skylight. The arch of the portico bears the building's name, surmounted by a sculptural group by Agustí Querol depicting Moses and the Tablets of the Law. The sculptors Rafael Atché, the Vallmitjana brothers, Josep Llimona and Eduard Batiste also contributed. Inside, murals by Josep M. Sert make this a genuine museum of Catalan art from the Belle Époque.
