Vases and Balustrade of Passeig de Lluís Companys

The Gerros i Balustrada of Passeig de Lluís Companys were designed by architect Pere Falqués i Urpí for the 1888 Universal Exhibition. They delimited the Saló de Sant Joan (now Passeig de Lluís Companys) and set it apart from the carriageways. Cast iron work was carried out by Fundiciones de Hierro Colomer, with the balustrade topped by a series of decorative vases featuring floral motifs, mythological animals, and original figures such as snails. As both an urban and architectural ornament, this balustrade with its gerros gives the promenade a monumental and refined character, enhancing the axis that links the Arc de Triomf to Ciutadella Park.
