The Rellotge dels Llums (Rocafort Street)

The Rellotge dels Llums (Rocafort Street) is a luminous clock installed in 1929 for the Barcelona Universal Exposition, in front of the former Banca Rosés. Designed by master watchmaker Juan Cabrerizo from a project by Joan Bautista Sales, it stands out for its unique mechanism: light bulbs that switch on and off in sync to indicate the hours and minutes. Embedded in the pavement and measuring two meters in diameter, it is made of greenish artificial stone, decorated with illuminated glass discs and golden brass details. It also features the bank’s emblem (the Greek god Hermes) and the coat of arms of Barcelona. After falling into disuse in 1957, when Banca Rosés became Banco Condal, the clock was restored in 2017 by the Barcelona Urban Landscape Institute. Today, it is part of the inventory of Small Landscapes of Barcelona.
