In the heart of La Rochelle, the Charles-Édouard Beltrémieux Animal Park offers 4 hectares of greenery home to more than 360 animals, from local species to passing migratory birds. Created in 1890 and established as an animal park in 1950, it now shelters Poitevin goats, Poitou donkeys, Marans hens, and Jersey cows, all living in semi-freedom in a peaceful natural setting. Named in honor of Charles-Édouard Beltrémieux, former mayor and curator of the Natural History Museum, this free, family-friendly park is perfect for a relaxing nature walk in the heart of the city.
