Bust of Emili Vilanova

In May 1908, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Floral Games of Barcelona, two busts of Catalan writers were inaugurated in Ciutadella Park, including that of Emili Vilanova (1840-1905). Made of marble by Pere Carbonell on a pedestal by Bonaventura Bassegoda, it pays tribute to the Barcelona costumbrista writer. The monument, located near the former Governor’s Palace (now the Verdaguer Institute), was presented by playwright Àngel Guimerà, who highlighted the symbolic value of this gesture in a Barcelona seeking cultural affirmation. Over time, the pedestal has suffered deterioration.
