The Casa Fuster, built between 1908 and 1911 by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, is one of his last great Modernist masterpieces. Commissioned by Consol Fabra i Puig, daughter of the Marquis of Alella, the building takes its name from her husband, Marià Fuster, who commissioned its construction after purchasing the former Juncosa chocolate factory that once occupied the site. The building stands out for its three richly decorated façades, entirely clad in white marble, and for the use of noble materials and Neo-Gothic motifs — trilobed windows, pointed arches, and columns with fantastical capitals inspired by classical orders. At the corner of Passeig de Gràcia, a cylindrical tower evokes a medieval fortification that, in the original plans, was to be topped with a Neo-Gothic spire. Its top floor, crowned with a French-style slate mansard roof, contrasts elegantly with the Modernist façade. In 2000, the building was restored and transformed into a luxury hotel, while preserving the architectural richness of Domènech i Montaner’s design.
