La Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima

Catalonia’s metallurgical industry began with the production of parts for textile machinery. In 1855, La Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima was founded, soon expanding into heavy machinery construction. The opening of a large factory in Barceloneta in 1861 enabled major projects such as bridge building. Its economic and technical impact was significant until its closure in 1965. Today, remnants such as a chimney and an overhead crane can still be seen.
