Monument to General Moragues

The Monument to General Moragues, located in Pla de Palau, pays tribute to Josep Moragues, a Catalan hero of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–1714). He was executed in 1715 for fighting against the Bourbon troops, and his head was displayed for twelve years at the Portal de Mar, near the current location of the monument. The work, a bronze bust on a stone pedestal, was created in 1984 by sculptor Rosa Martínez Brau, based on a design by historian Lluís Pujal. Originally placed here until 1999, the sculpture was reinstalled in 2013 after being restored.
