The Nautical School of Barcelona

The Escola Nàutica de Barcelona, located on Pla de Palau, was built between 1931 and 1933 in a monumental classical style inspired by the Llotja de Mar. Designed by architects Adolf Florensa and Joaquim Vilaseca, the building stands out for its four porticoes with Tuscan columns, balustrades, and triangular or oval pediments. Founded in 1769, the nautical school is the oldest maritime institution in Spain. Over the years, it occupied several iconic buildings in Barcelona —including La Barceloneta, La Llotja, and the Porxos d’en Xifré— before finally settling in its current home, now listed as a Local Cultural Heritage Site (BCIL).
