The Nova Icària Beach, developed for the 1992 Olympic Games, is today a true haven of peace in the heart of Barcelona. Located next to the Port Olímpic and stretching over 415 meters of golden sand, it is highly valued for its calm and family-friendly atmosphere, perfect for those seeking relaxation. Its history goes back to the 19th century, when urban planner Ildefons Cerdà named the area in reference to the myth of Icarus and the utopian ideas of Étienne Cabet. After the disappearance of the Somorrostro shantytown and a long period of neglect, the beach was reborn with the major urban transformation of the 1990s. Today, Nova Icària stands out for its peaceful vibe and wide range of facilities: beach volleyball courts, ping-pong tables, showers, beach bars, as well as sunbed and umbrella rentals. It is also fully accessible to people with reduced mobility. Thanks to its central location, it has become an essential Barcelona beach, blending history, serenity, and leisure.
