Palau Castellet

Palau Castellet may date back to the 13th century, but it was entirely renovated at the end of the 18th century at the initiative of Marià Alegre d'Aparici i d'Amat, Baron of Castellet. Its façade imitates ancient ashlar stonework while retaining an embedded relief — likely from the 16th century — depicting God surrounded by cherubs, set into the masonry like a fragment of memory. Inside, a sumptuous neoclassical salon reveals the patron's ambition and the era's taste for austere, elegant lines. Now part of the Museu Picasso, it contributes to the remarkable ensemble of medieval and early modern palaces that make Carrer Montcada one of the most distinguished streets in Barcelona's old city.
